LIFE IN THE WAR ZONE: SICK MARLINS AND HOT LAMBORGHINIS
Miami is having a week, and it's only Tuesday.
Here are a couple of current woes and stupidities, in no particular order.
The Florida Marlins aren't playing because as of this writing 18 players and coaches tested positive for Covid 19. The Major League Baseball league put their season on hold because more than half the players are out.
Marlin's CEO Derek Jeter now says he's testing the players daily. Gee, think you might have thought of that before? Have you forgotten that Miami is an epicenter for that blasted virus?
David Hines of Miami lied and obtained nearly $4 million in Covid relief loans. Then he bought a 2020 Lamborghini, among other niceties.
How did he get caught? The Miami Police Department's Neighborhood Enhancement Team gave him a $100 ticket because he wasn't wearing a mask. Curiously it took officials a bit to catch on that the Lamborghini wasn't on the list of permissible items for purchase with the loan money. Neither was the jewelry, hotel stays and other little trinkets. They seized the car and about $3.4 million.
The best part is that Hines got out on $100,000 bond and is now staying at his mother's house wearing a GPS monitor. Yeah, he's with his mommy. His mommy.
Are the Marlins that dumb? I get that they want to make money and the fans want to see the games. But when Covid 19 ripped through the players almost overnight, ya think they might have put the breaks on?
But then again we've got a guy who swindled nearly $4 million bucks from the feds and somehow managed to con somebody into home confinement. With his mommy.
Picture yourself the winner of a lottery ticket and finding out you can't claim the prize right away.
The instructions are that you can mail the ticket to one of the closed offices or drop it into boxes that are supposedly safe and tamper proof.
Yeah, right.
Wear the masks, people, wear the masks.
