MIAMI MOANS LIFE IN THE WAR ZONE: CURFEWS
Yeah, just what people want to hear on a Friday night.
Okay, Covid 19 has put quite a damper on everybody's social life. Depending on how old you are, where you live your life, or a host of other factors chances are your plans for tonight have been altered by forces outside of your control.
Were you thinking of dinner later on tonight? Was a trip to Miami Beach part of your plan? I'm not talking about hanging out in a crowded area or going to a club and rubbing elbows with the hordes.
Whatever. A lot of those things are not going to happen. To add some levity, here's a photo of lovely flowers called Plumeria, normally blooming in the War Zone this time of year.
Life in the War Zone now means a curfew is in place starting tonight at 8:00PM in the beach area, and 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM in Broward County. For non-Floridians, here's a map of Broward. Curfew is on until August 1.
South Beach (you know, the area that most non-Floridians think of as Miami) also has a curfew in place starting at 8:00PM. And Ocean Drive (where all those funky art deco buildings are) is off limits to vehicle traffic at all times. Restaurants, cafeterias etc will shut down for the night and you can forget musical venues.
Live entertainment is prohibited. Zero. Zilch. Nada.
That's just a short list -- check out the Miami Beach municipal website for more depressing statistics.
There's a whole bunch of other stuff NOT going on in some of the other municipalities in South Florida, but I don't want to confuse you. Just breaking the news slowly so those of you who don't live here, who don't know just how HUGE South Florida is can start to comprehend what those of us who call this spot of the planet home have been enduring for the past couple of months.
Curfews effectively shut down any and all traffic in the areas affected. You've never heard anything as deafening as the silence of a city normally alive and bustling with people and traffic coming to a screeching halt, eerily silent.
Wear a mask, people. It's just part of Life in the War Zone.
